Dave Brubeck, the absolute brilliance of Brubeck began during the Mid 40’s with his Octet and later with the Trio (The Fantasy Records-period). The personnel of the octet varied, but almost all of them were former students of Milhaud. Due to various reasons, the Octet fell apart, so Brubeck went from big to small: the trio, including Cal Tjader on drums and Ton Crotty on bass. Their first album was recorded in 1949.
